When it all boils down to it, we're telling a "Rock and Roll" fairytale here. It just so happens that our fairytale is true. And because the arch of our screenplay and hopeful feature film spans over three decades, from the musical revolution of the 1960's, all the way up to the late 1990's, the evolutionary journey of pop/rock music is essential to accomplishing the many moods of this film. We dream of the budget which will allow us to secure the rights to tracks which are indicative of the time. I want chart and B-side tunes from those time periods to establish my eras. I want artists who were the voice of their time to subconsciously remind the audience of their own past. I want people to see, smell, and feel the 60's, 70's, and 80's, just by hearing a song and remembering where they were when it was popular. That being said, we think it is just as important, even essential, that we have an underscore of completely original music, which is native to our story alone. A musical presence that puts an organic personal feel into the film, something artistically relatable to our hero himself, his own music in fact. And what better way to capture the essence of Bax in those days, than to have Scott Baxendale himself write and record music which spoke of the times. As well as being a master Luthier, Scott Baxendale is a well accomplished songwriter and guitarist who possesses the ability to combine organic acoustic instruments with modern methods of recording and sequencing to produce songs which yield monumental personality and resonance. His knowledge of so many music styles and drifting, yet beckoning arrangements, have a natural sway toward film scoring, and we feel this element will provide a personalized and original sonic quality to our film. Both Bax and I have been musicians for many years and we are in full agreement that the power of music is universal and that this story about the journey of one man's human spirit, must take place in a pulsating and fluid world of music. Music that intrigues us, welcomes us, and sometimes even shuns us harshly and punishes us. This is all the more reason why we insist that our leading man be a well accomplished guitarist… his fingers must play the notes. Callous to fret, the music must be there on set as the cameras roll. Without the sacred riffs that accompany this epic storyline, the experience would only be half true.
