This is a mini rant.

Or a full rant.

So, I've been off of work a few days and in between catching up on stuff I've recorded and watching DVDs I've caught a few commercials on the TV.  Normally I ignore commercials except for some that I like (partial to the old guy dancing for Six Flags theme park).  But there is one commercial out now that I can not stand.

It's for one of those diet food programs...like Jenny Craig, Nutrasystem, etc.  I can't remember which one it is.  But you know the food programs.  You pay a certain amount of money each month and they send you food to eat for breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert, and snack.  I'm not knocking the programs, because I know they work for people.

The commercials are all essentially the same....if it's not one that's celebrity-endorsed, it's some random person saying how something happened in their life that made them want to lose the weight.  Before summer hits...it's ladies wanting to lose weight so they look good in a bathing suit.  Sometimes it's someone wanting to lose weight before a big class reunion.

But the one I started seeing this weekend absolutely horrified me.

A woman gets on and starts to tell this story about how she drives a carpool with her daughter and some other classmates and she says her daughter gets in the car some day and says to her, "Why are you so fat mommy?"

WHAT?????

Is that what our society has come to?  Children are not only spoiled but they're allowed to say hateful, hurtful comments like that to their own PARENTS????

How can that be acceptable?

How can a commercial promote that type of behavior?

I mean, I know the point was that this woman wanted to make a change and lost weight on whatever system it was she was on.  But if it was my child who said that to me...I'm not so sure the child would get a pat on the back.

But it also just goes to show what type of a society we're pushing today.  A world of thin, perfect, beautiful people.  And while none of those things are bad, the fact that a mother's child thinks that their mom has to be a particular weight is just awful.  Obviously it is not what is inside that counts.  Which is just very, very sad.

Amen sister...if someone said that to me they would get the Mommy glare and be sent to their room.
