Reviews for Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

10 out of 10
Artist: Crisis in Hollywood
Title: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea
Label: Financial Records
Once I put Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea in my car CD player I didn't want to take it out. I'm sure I looked like a freak to other drivers on the roads as I belted out the lyrics and bounced around as I waited for the red light change. But hey, I couldn't help myself; this CD had the "it" factor for me. I loved the music, the harmonies, and the simple but impactful lyrics. Lead singer Adrian Snyder's vocals reminded me of Adam Lazzara from Taking Back Sunday. Most of the songs deal with love and relationships without being too sappy or cheesy.
The first song, The Fashion of the Christ, sets the tone and vibe of the CD with its heavy punk sound and high energy. Like most of the other songs on the album, Sin on my Lips had a catchy chorus I could not get out of my head. My favorite song was If Your Heart's Out because it was catchy and I could see a lot of people relating to the lyrics. Stay was a sweet and tranquil song, that showcased the band's beautiful harmonies. The last song, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea, had a funky beat to it that I really liked, and then in the middle they picked up the beat and energy so that it matched the first song's tempo and mood.

Crisis in Hollywood formed in 2006 when friends Adrian Snyder, Logan Benton, Daniel Valery, and Andy Wamback left their former local bands. They built a following in Florida and late in 2006 they started touring the country. In 2007 the band signed to Financial Records and released Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea. I can't wait to return this CD to my car's player!

Thanks to this guy/girl for the kind words below! We love you too!!

Not only does the album suck tremendously, so does the guys in the band. They are rude fake and full of shit. This so called review was done by Andy Wambach the bands very own drummer! How sad is it that this band has to go to these kind of measures just to "feel good" about the piece of shit album they created. This band will go nowhere much like the rest of the wannabes in the Orlando Music scene. Adrian is a pussy, Logan is a fucking twat poser, and Andy haha what a fucking scrawny dickless loser. The other guitarist isn't even worth a mention.

A Crisis In Hollywood sucks. What a pathetic attempt at an album. One more thing, see them live and laugh at how tone deaf Adrian is. The pussy needs a studio to stay ... Pathetic.

From the Editor
ooh... I think someone has a crush on the band!! Generally it's true love and only true love that can incite such passion. Oh, and I happen to know who my writers are... and this one definitly is NOT the drummer for Crisis in Hollywood. Nice try Johnny Boy!

Crisis in Hollywood – Between The Devil and The Deep Blue Sea / 2008 Financial / 13 Tracks / http://www.crisisinhollywood.com /

Crisis in Hollywood consists of a number of members from acts that have all gained some sort of notoriety in their respective region's music scenes. This means that there are members that spent time in From Adam to Atom, Timebomb, Ask Me Later, and The Staredown. While each of those acts were good in their own right (even though I was not too familiar with From Adam to Atom), Crisis in Hollywood represents a serious step forward for each member. The quality of the band's output was so high, in fact, that they gained the attention of former Victims of Circumstance and Mighty Mighty Bosstones members, who gave the green light for Crisis In Hollywood to go forward.

Despite the fact that the band has only been around for a little bit over 2 years, the compositions on "Between the Devil" are incredibly mature. In fact, the opening track, "The Fashion of the Christ", is incredibly energetic while still having a very intricate set of arrangements. What results is a merging of emo and punk rock that, while somewhat similar to Yellowcard, surpasses that band's output from the get go. "Like A Wave" continues much of the same sound as "The Fashion of the Christ", but tweaks the vocals to reflect more of an Alkaline Trio influence. The straight-forward, driving drum beats keeps the rest of the band on task, while the vocals have a force behind them that keeps pace with the sizzling guitar lines that ride alongside them.

Any of the disc's 13 cuts could conceivably be rocketing up the CMJ charts; all it takes are the right individuals to hear this album and the band would be ready to be picked up by a major, or (if they decide not to go that route) being played on rock stations all across the United States. The title track, which ends the disc, is without any argument the best track on the album. The band icksthings up quite a few notches, inserting metal and hardcore influences to their overall sound. Where acts like Coheed and Cambria were able to inject a minor amount of storytelling into their albums, Crisis In Hollywood are able to create an epic that links together Queens of the Stone Age, the aforementioned Alkaline Trio and Coheed, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, and even acts like From First To Last to make what is the current face of rock music. The act will be big; I guarantee it.

Top Tracks: Sin on My Lips, Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea

Crisis in Hollywood - Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea - CD
(Financial Records) I kept thinking to myself this is what it would sound like if The Used and Panic at the Disco joined forces. The music and lyrics are catchy and the songs have a drive. This is a band that I expect to be one of the headliners on the annual Warped Tour. Right from the start I knew this is a band I would like. "The Fashion of the Christ" reminded me so much of the afore-mentioned bands that I had to read the liner notes to see if any of the members were in fact in this band. This is a CD that I need to share with my friends and you need to check out before the band gets too big.
