Current mood:  contemplative
there should be a fast lane for the high strung
that way you know to not step in their way
once you see one coming...

just step aside
and let 'em have their way,
with their Ivy League t-shirts
and heart rate monitor,
so they can better control
their afternoon stroll

just let them pass you there
with minds spinning and spinning
while mentally checking off "jog" from their to-do list
and piecing together a new "project" ...
christ, everything's a project with these people

they multi-task themselves into oblivion
and piece together a life for the 'future'
figuring out how best to invest their money
so that retirement won't be too big a bitch.

yes, i'd like to get out of their way, but i can't.
you see, they're everywhere.
they're Americans and they rule the country.

i think i understand why David Bowie said he's afraid of Americans,
they're hard to like.
i mean, think back to when you were in high school,
remember the kids who always wanted to compete with you,
rather than be your friend?
those are the Americans.
and when they grow up, they still compete,
but this time they're for real.
with their plans, goals, and agendas.
no wonder Al-Qeada wants to hurt us.
a country that produces people as scummy as
dick cheney or donald trump
(whose people skills are criminal)
is earning itself quite the shady reputation.

...

sometimes i'm glad i have an Argentine dad.
he'd always have many interesting friends over the house when i was young,
and they'd be eating good food, and singing some loud-ass music.
i was surrounded by good natured people as a kid,
many of them American, and many of them Latin.
i'm sure they all worked equally hard, don't get me wrong, but at the end of the day,
they all knew the value of getting together with friends,
and relaxing with some nice food, wine, music.
and most importantly, not COMPETING against people.
i think it's a shame that not everyone in this country had
that kind of upbringing, but i know that many of my values
are not shared by everyone...

i'm certain that if my mom were still around today, she'd agree with me on this one:
treat people like they're a guest in your home.
even if they're annoying, workaholic americans.
