CALL TO ARTISTS: Sacramento, California (and beyond)Deadline: May 27, 2008 -
extended due to the hiatus! Pompsicle book project
Pompsicle will be producing a limited edition book showcasing some of the best artwork from our weekly drawing sessions as well as sketches from our occasional location drawings. Short features on a few models and artists who frequent the sessions will also be included.
This initial call to artists is only going out to Myspace friends! You guys have played a HUGE part in getting the word out about Pompsicle and making it the success that it has become. I want to show my appreciation by allowing you the first shot at getting work in this collection.THE DETAILS (SO FAR):
What we are looking for: Original sketches or paintings that were created (or at least started) at a Pompsicle drawing session.
What we are NOT looking for: Artwork from anywhere else.
Deadline for submitting artwork for consideration: May 5th 2008
What to submit: Show us
5 or less of your best sketches.
If it's not obvious what night the sketch is from, let us know the model/theme or date.
How to submit artwork: Post your artwork in our Comments! Make sure to include something like "I am submitting this to be considered for the Pompsicle book." Also we will need your contact info (phone). You'll want to send a private message for this. Or email low-res files to
Ben Walker .
If your artwork is selected to be included in the Pompsicle book, we will let you know. At that point (May, 2008) you will need to supply us with high quality, high resolution scans or photos.
A bit on how work will be selected:If you come to Pompsicle a lot, you know I don't put emphasis on creating photo-realistic copies of whatever is in front of you, the artist. We are not Xerox machines. Pompsicle is all about "characters" whether the model is in costume or a "real life character" like a fashion model, punk, or bass player in a country band. So a sketch that may not be in perfect proportion but portrays a character and has great story elements has a better chance of making it into this book than a perfectly rendered study of an ear or hand. Like I say, "Draw a pirate, not a person in a pirate costume." although we haven't actually had a pirate model for us….
Book Release Date: September, 2008
Other Frequently (probably) Asked Questions:
Will I be paid for being included in the Pompsicle book? No, sorry. Isn't being part of an awesome project like this enough? :) The entire budget for this project is going toward printing costs and a book release event.
Is there an entry fee? No. You have already paid a cover for going to at least one Pompsicle session. That is going toward the work being put into this project.
Will I get a free copy of the book if my artwork is included? Yes!
That's all for now, check back for more detail. Good luck!!
