Have you ever tried to do something new and realized that
it was A LOT harder than you thought it was going to be?
Because while I was doing yoga with a friend of mine this
weekend, I helped adjust her yoga pose and she blurted out:
"This is much more difficult than the way I was doing it."
As I sat with her statement, I responded with: "It's not more
difficult. In fact, it's easier. It's just new and your body isn't
used to it yet."
Boy is that a nugget of truth.
The more I thought about it, the more I realized that this
same wisdom applies to everything in life. When you first
start something new, it can seem super tough and
challenging.
Yet if you think about it, you're only struggling because
you're used to doing things a certain way and it feels
funny to change.
But the truth is that it's NOT more difficult, it's just new.
And because it's new, it just SEEMS harder.
When you really get this, the key to dealing with new
situations is to mentally and emotionally prepare yourself
for the inevitable challenge. It's almost as if you should
expect things to be a little rocky in the beginning.
When it's smoother than you anticipated, you get smile and
laugh. When it's challenging (like you expected), you handle it with
grace and ease knowing that it's a part of the plan.
Either way, you're good to go.
I'm sharing this with you to shift your thinking and help you
understand that change might "seem" tough. But if you keep
this conversation in your awareness, you will realize that
it's not actually harder. It's just new. And once it's not new
anymore, it will be easy again.
You feel me?
