HomeGirl Present
Two of Dublin 's finest new bands to play double headliner at Masons This Friday (22nd June)
Doors 10pm
Tax - 5 Pounds
A double helping of some of the finest contemporary Irish music is coming to you from Dublin next week. Both Fight Like Apes and Dry County have been confirmed for Masons and judging by the standard of these highly regarded bands this could easily be gig of the month.
From Fight Like Apes buzzed up indiefied punk, to the unstoppably cool sounding indie electronica of Dry County, these two Dublin bands like so many others in Ireland, are proving that there is no need to look across the water for some of the best new music.
Fight Like Apes Bio.
Hailing from Dublin , Ireland and weighing in at over 6 hundred pounds, Fight Like Apes combine the Synth with the Sword in this heroic tale of anger, jealousy, greed and ...goblins. With an emphasis on loutish vocals, brutish bass and digital distortion Fight Like Apes are highly trained, armed and considered extremely dangerous.
The roots of the band lie firmly in the world of quirky alternative music; superheroes like Pavement, Mclusky, Yo La Tengo and My Bloody Valentine are their idols. Already with a loyal and continually growing base of stalkers, Fight Like Apes released their debut EP 'How Am I Supposed To Kill You If You Have All The Guns?' through FIFA Records on May 18th.
They have a string of dates lined up for the summer across the UK and Ireland , and will also be appearing the highly esteemed Exit festival in Serbia .
Dry County Bio .
Dry County released their debut album ' Unexpected Falls ' after three years of blood, sweat and tears back in May.
It crossbreeds a love of songs and a passion for electronic and dance music, the natural and the mechanical, mixed and combined. The fabric of the album is constructed from guitars, Nord Lead 2, Microkorg, Piano, Auto Harp, Mellotron, live drums (some built from buckets and boxes), various other computers and machinery and of course the lead vocals of lyricist Kevin Littlewood, backed mainly by Phil Porter, Stuart Flood and Joanne Parle but with the help of quite a few other voices along the way. The lead single 'Attention' has a chorus featuring twelve of the band's closest disciples.
