Vengeance is mine saith the Lord, I will repay.
A novel coming shortly from Sleeping Beagle Books, VENGEANCE, explores the consequences of ignoring that sound advice.
Imagine you have just married a man. You've known him virtually all of your life. His mother and yours were best friends. In his younger days, he was largely a poster boy for bad behaviour; possessing that extremely dangerous combination of money, good looks, and sufficient leisure to use both of those other two to get into trouble. But, he's kept his public image clean for the last few years and he's convinced you that he's changed, that he's ready to settle down to a quiet life and be good husband, that he's fallen totally, irrevocably, in love with you. Imagine that.
Now, on your honeymoon, you discover he's not really changed at all. He's just learned to be discreet about his indiscretions, as oxymoronic as that sounds; to keep his misbehaviour private. You're ready to to file for an annulment, to end this farce of a marriage on the basis of fraud. You have a terrible fight and prepare to walk away.
And then, following the fight, he dies. Suddenly. Without warning. Just keels over in the shower. There on your honeymoon. You were the last one to see him alive. You certainly had motive to want him dead.
Your mother-in-law publicly accuses you of murder and vows revenge against you. Nothing will convince her that you didn't kill him. Nothing, not even the autopsy report saying the death was from natural causes will sway her from her conviction that you murdered him. She has just become your mortal enemy.
And that, my friends, is the essence of the prolog of VENGEANCE.
The book will be out in March in both print and various e-formats, from Sleeping Beagle Books, www.sleepingbeaglebooks.com. Put it on your "Must Buy" list. You won't be disappointed.
