Eddie Makey and me and the way we wrote the song intiled,"AYANA"-The baby song.
Eddie was at that time playing drums for my band,"The Buckboard Express", and his wife was pregnant, maybe in her 8th or 9th month, and they both gave me the honor of naming their daughter, and so..I did and with pleasure.
And the first name that came to my mind was "Ayana". They both agreed that the name was great, and wanted to know its meaning. I said "Beautiful Flower" and we called it "the baby song". There was a melody of a song, being turned over and over in my mind, in which I didn't have any lyrics. So I began to hum the melody to Eddie, and with the thought of being a father and godfather, the words began to flow from our mouth, and the song began to live.
Thanks Eddie Maxey, R.I.P.
"Walkin' in the Park"
The park scene, the early mornins', the birds are singing, (beautiful) WOW!
I had this idea of writing a park scene song-so Eddie Maxey, and myself (Hermon Hitson), would sometimes go to Mozley Park in Atl, GA. Around 5 or 6 o'clock in the morning, I would take my acoustic guitar and Eddie would just take a pair of drum sticks and would beat on anything in reach, while I played my guitar and we both sang, while listening to music of the birds, and talking to those two beautiful young ladies, who appeared all of a sudden, out of nowhere it seemed, who had been listening to us play all the while. But, at that time I only had the melody to the song and no lyrics as yet and no title. But by talking to the ladies and seeing how they were enjoying each other, walking holding hands, sitting and hugging, the words to the song began to come forth. And that's how walking in the park began.
Both songs,"Ayana" and "Walking in the Park" were written in 1979.
Eddie Maxey also recorded two other songs written by Hermon Hitson and Freddie Terrell titled "You had it Made" and "Why not Me". Thanks.
