New review of our album posted at the French webzine Des Filles et Des Riffs Or read it below if you don't speak French...

__________________________________________________________________________

Clandestine is a“metal prog” band from the USA, which includes a few former members of “Apex Theory”.  It would be more accurate to define the band’s musical style as “Modern goth metal prog” since the band manages a clever mix of several different musical styles while remaining melodic and accessible to a wide audience.  To sum it up roughly, one might say that Clandestine is a hybrid of “Dream Theater” and “Evanescence”.

Indeed, we have here some very progressive sounding riffs and keyboards, and, for the most part, the musicians’ technical level is very high, with fairly complex compositions.  As for the modern gothic side, it is present in the heavy and catchy rhythm section and in the catchy melodies that are easily memorized.  The singer is June with her powerful voice full of emotions.  Her style is mainly melodic, but she doesn’t hesitate to throw in a scream once in a while or to use a saturated voice.

With this album, Clandestine gives us 10 potential hits, rich with melody and highly diverse.  We go from the very modern-prog “Fearless” and “Disappear In You” to the pop ballad “Silent Sin”, to the ark and aggressive “Philistine” with its slightly electro hard-driving chorus.  “Pretend” returns to a softer, more velvety mood, imbued with a certain despair.  “Fracture” is more prog with a funky side, whereas “Dead to the World” shows a rougher side again with its heavy tone and its syncopated rhythm.  It may be the track in which the mix of progressive and modern is the most apparent.  The album ends with the trippy “The Invalid” and the mysterious “Comatose”.

A beautiful find.
