The Disclaimers Playing Free Shows This Week
Wayne Irby
and Kelley Norris have taken what started as a mutual appreciation for the same music and turned it into their own creative collaboration. With influences such as Townes Van Zandt, John Prine, Emmylou Harris and Lucinda Williams, the root of their music is reminiscent of the 1970's bridge between folk and country. Getting their start playing at Taylor Grocery, they have quickly added other area venues to their Lafayette County tour playing a repertoire of mostly original songs but keeping a couple of classic covers for the masses.
While perfectly comfortable strumming guitars and playing as a duo, The Disclaimers have conned more than a few superior local musicians to take the stage with them from infamous bassist Augie Joachim to recently stealing Kevin Larkin away from the Mayhem String Band for a round of gigs. Others have included Brandon "Bear" Hughes, Bryan Ledford, Daniel Spears, David Bridgers, and Matthew Magee to name a few.
Continuing to play regular Taylor gigs, The Disclaimers have gained local attention over the past year by playing the early slot at the Double Decker Festival, a host of shows at Parrish's and, most recently, a guest appearance on the Thacker Mountain Radio Show. Last month, The Disclaimers took the Proud Larry's stage for a couple of dinner shows and a sit-in with the Last Waltz Ensemble and on their own show at Proud Larry's accompanied by Augie Joachim and Kevin Larkin. The Disclaimers will be back at Larry's Thursday, November 1st with free dinner music and Friday, November 9th they will be playing a free live show at Parrish's.
