So, for those of you who snoozed past 8 am yesterday, you missed our performance on KFOG. The power of our music so overloaded KFOG's circuitry that their signal died, and they went off the air. Seriously.
At least that's my read of the situation, based on my vast understanding of radio engineering.
The DJ's said it was a first . . .
Sound problems plagued the broadcast from the beginning. At 6:30 am, while the DJs frantically checked in with the technical team back at the station, we played our first song, "Until," which became a somewhat different version over the radio, containing short periods of complete silence (no, those were not dramatic pauses or your brain on the blink)-- the broadcast was erratically cutting out . . . We returned from a coffee break following our second song to see people (including some of the Morning Team) streaming out of the Little Fox Theatre. One of the DJs sadly informed us that their sound equipment had failed. Renee Richardson and Dave Morey then hightailed it through rush hour traffic up to S.F. to finish the broadcast from the studio--that segment where Renee broadcast traffic news, while in traffic on her cell phone ("that guy in the green truck really should slow down . . ."), was not just a gimmick.
And that's not even to mention my horrible wardrobe malfunction. Good thing it was only radio.
The good news? We stayed behind at the Little Fox to play music for the incredibly enthusiastic Fogheads who had gotten up before the crack of dawn to come see us and the Morning Team. And KFOG invited us back to play another day, likely to the studio, where technical snafus are more unlikely, and where I plan to test my theory about the power of music . . .
Thanks to all of you who tuned in or attended (or tried to attend) our performance . . . I'll find a way to get you your missed hours of sleep back somehow. . . . Ahhh, there's nothing like live radio . . .
