The End 2.0 - new cd "Brainbuilders" under construction.

Hi there Endheads and other enjoyers of good quality music.
So, we have finally started the process of recording our new and long awaited third cd "Brainbuilders" and I will try to post footage and comments about the recording process as it evolves. The cd will present you with 10 new original compositions written and produced by me and performed by The End 2.0 who is

Morten Grønvad (Denmark): midi-vibes, percussion, keyboards and programming.
Pelle Fridell (Sweden): saxes, reeds and EWI.
Yasser Pino (Cuba): electric and acoustic bass.
Niels Ratzer (Denmark): drums

It is my hope, that this blog will give you an inside view of the creative processes involved in making our cd. There are many choices to make and many options to be considered. Some tracks will be produced by layering single instrumental performances in sync with preprogrammed computer tracks, while others, when called for, will be recorded in the studio as live recordings, a far more traditional way when it comes to jazz recordings.
I have a very clear compositional direction and a defined sound in my head that I want to bring out on this recording, and here the computer really works great for me, as it enables me to record and produce, for instance many layers of percussion to emphasis the rhythmic drive of a song or interweave several different soundtextures from my keyboards to get the very special soundbed needed for an arrangement.
The choice of my co-musicians is no coincidence as they all represent the ultimate instrumentalists in their fields. My good lifelong friend and dummer, Niels Ratzer, is by now a living legend in Denmark and we both share a passion for
jazzfusion, as we see it as the perfect melting pot for all good in music. Saxophonist Pelle Fridell substituted the former saxophonist of The End, Thomas Hass, some four years ago, and he is the perfect match for this music. Versatile and energetic and also quite a tech nerd. Our bassist Yasser Pino, who also replaced our former bassist, Ole Skipper Mosgaard, came from Cuba to study at the conservatory in Copenhagen. He has brought his country's whole musical tradition and warmth into our sound while still being up there with all the fantastic contemporary jazz bassists. He has a very strong rhythmic sense which totally complements Niels Ratzer's playing.
For me this project is my heartblood, and the vessel for most of my true creativity. I have worked on the songs for some years now maturing them like good wine until they were ready to be recorded.
I am producing the cd in my own studio, "Greenhouse FX" in Copenhagen, and this gives us the freedom to try out all the ideas that come to us during the production. Of course the process of recording the cd takes a lot longer than going to a rented studio for a week, but the complex nature of my music really needs time to develop in order to get every subtle nuance right. That's also why I am calling the new cd "Brainbuilders". It is my belief, that many music lovers simply get offended by the vast mass of music produced with the sole purpose of cashing in as fast as possible. I've been playing and composing for the last 25 years and always for the love of music, and I hope you will enjoy what comes out of it in The End.
Peace, Morten.
