Current mood:  angry
THIS IS A NOTE TO ALL FILESHARERS AND INTERNET WHORES!
As we explore this new online territory, it has become common to find many unreleased songs on file sharing sites. If you are one of these fuckin fanatics, please understand that by taking what is not yours, you are killing MUSIC itself! It takes alot to continue releasing music on an independent, out of pocket level. Most of us are not backed by million dollar firms and don't have money to to afford you the luxury of robbery. When we put our energy into creating music, it is honestly for the joy and passion of connecting with others. If things continue as they are, GOOD MUSIC will cease and will become even harder to find and you will only have the bullshit that comes with easy access. If you have seen or taken part in any file sharing of Yoruba Records, i pray the ORISHA to give you a conscience to deny the continuation of stealing from us. I have recently found out that Nadirah's "Love Song" (Bahsonik Rmx) was available on a file sharing site. This angers me more than i can say. This song has been leaked from day one hence the delay of its original release. I commisioned new remixes in order to give my true supporters options, but now i find it impossible to do more without expecting disrespect.
ONE DAY MUSIC WILL CEASE AND THERE WILL BE SILENCE...WILL U THEN STEAL THE SOUND OF NATURE? RESPECT IS IN ORDER!!

Before I begin, let me just say that as a DJ I buy Yoruba vinyl and am a big fan of yours, Osunlade.  It's beautiful to be in a world humming with the brilliance of your music.

The reality is this: we have always shared music.  Back in the day, I used to record stuff from the radio to cassette and play songs for my friends.  Aunts and uncles traded songs with each other and, if they really liked it, they bought the album.  Honestly, I feel this way - if I buy a CD or a 12", I own that.  If I want to share it with someone I trust, I'm hoping they will like it enough to support the artist themselves.  No, I don't believe in stealing, but I also don't believe that it's as clear-cut as "file sharing=stealing".  I think that's what recording executives want you to believe because their in it to make money from anything and at every turn.  Yes, the poverty of spirit that allows someone to steal is a very real thing, but let us remember that it's working poor people who keep the rich in deep pockets.

And I'm not suggesting for people who are in it to simply make good music to just embrace all file sharing with open arms, either.  I'm torn because I know that musicians like yourself can't continue to produce music without support.  But I also know the reality - if it can be heard, it can be copied and shared with relative ease.  File sharing is not going anywhere anytime soon.  Brother, that's the reality we live within.  I understand your anger.  Release it - give it away.  Good music will never cease because they ARE people who DO support it.

Same position. Small label, no money, but a great pleasure to offer new music productions.

Don't try to stole a kind of present.

obviously right what u say...but...i think filesharing is a good way to spread ur music all over the world .... u reach people who will buy ur stuff after checkin it out via file sharin...me personal know a lot people who do like that...its right what u say about competitioners... but think about the advantages of file sharing...there's always a positive in the negative..

just a point of view ;)

For My part, I'll say this: If it wasn't for a Dj named Miles Moore in MTL, I probably would'nt  know who his Osunlade and Yoruba Records. Dj Miles Moore, wich is a very good Dj in MTL, played one of his track from Paradigm and that just blew me away... Me and one of my friend began sharing more of his music by downloading his music off the internet. That made me discover a unique universe that completly change my life....litterally! In that perspective and because we respect him, we bought the Aquarian Moon CD, I bought the PAradigm vinyl, Yemeya vinyl and a lot more from Osunlade and Yoruba records. I went to see him spinnin' at the Pub Saint-James wich his a nice cozy place in Montreal and we had a blast with JJ Flores and Osunlade on the turntables. My point his yes, File sharing can be bad if people doesn't use common sense...But it can also brings more people to know your music, buying your records and going to your gigs. I think Dj's are important as well, they have an educational role to play!

I understand your anger. I have to admit I have obtained some of your tunes through sharing, DJ to DJ. I have turned this around into a positive for you in that I played them hard (still do) on the radio to try and present the inspiring music you make and break through the commercial durge that is filling radio schedules. It's working well I believe for the music here in London.

DJs need to have gems to keep'em wanting. You make more than your fair share of these! I think it sucks when trust is broken and the blessing of an exclusive is made universally available but it has been this way forever in the biz. Now there is a dichotomy with the digital domain. As artist / producer you can miss out the selling of the soul to major labels an the BS that comes with it and enjoy a direct commercial relationship with the consumer which is great but the files are exposed to this kind of abuse.

Though it is frustrating your music is timeless and will always sell. Good blog, and I hope DJs pay attention to it.

I NEVER share share files publically and only ever give files to someone who will continue the exposure of the music, who's ever it is. For the record I have bought lots of Yoruba stuff online and in store.

Keep on blessing us bro.

We can start stoping to make digital releases...or just press first the vinyl releases and after one month maybe...i sayd maybe...make a digital release...this can be a way...i think there are others but for me is the best way...
A lot indipendent record labels ...do the opposite...they don't understand that a lot peoples will never buy them releases in vinyl or at all (like me...i'm a vinyl purist) especially after that all others digital dj have played that for a month....
"Keep alive the music culture...press and play strictly vinyls"
