Today's offering is on Green Hell. I don't imagine it'll be to everyone's taste, as it concerns my thoughts on one of my favorite poetic/musical forms, the Border ballad. It's one of a series I intend to post along with whatever comments or thoughts pop into my fevered brain, upon reading or hearing any given specimen of the genre.

I loved it! Thanks for the introduction into yet something else new - for me.

really enjoyed reading this one...reminded me of my own school years, being bored out of mind mostly...we didn't have TAG up north, but we did have the "gifted" program which bored me still...until I met one English teacher, think it was about the 7th grade who decided to abandon the normal curriculum and introduce us to e.e. cummings and Lawrence Ferlinghetti's Coney Island of the Mind...I think I may have been the only one who got them but that class changed me completely...reading those writers in particular made be realize that there really was a big world out there that I would fit into some day, that the crazy little dancer spirit loving freak I felt like would have a life beyond the street I was growing up on...

anyway, thanks for sharing!

Beautiful piece of work Dave.

As for dissasociating children from their heritage, its a common way to have them lose their sense of identity to a clan so as to make it simpler to incorporate them into The Machine.

That once done allows them to accept this "one people, one world" and "it takes a village etc" bullshit.

"Each night within his prison cell,
he looks out through the bars.
He reads the letters that she wrote.
One day he'll know the taste of freedom.

Over the hills and far away,
she prays he will return one day.
As sure as the rivers reach the seas,
back in his arms she swears she'll be."

There's something in Gary Moore's rendition of "Over the hills" that stirs the blood and brings history to life. I wonder if we do have ancestral memories. I've often thought we did. Is it possible for music to unlock the hidden memories and cast up scenes of long ago, or are they merely imaginings of a creative mind?

Thank god I now have an explanation for my strange ways! Having extensive Scots heritage and a little Irish(but don't mention this to my dad) I now see that I never had a hope of being 'normal'. Cat and I discovered some time ago that we both had linkage back to Guernsey - bizarre really when you think how small it is - but, if you believe in ancestral memory etc then it may well explain our closeness - perhaps some ancient memory made us recognise each other when we met.

size="3">Gotta love this shit. Ya just gotta love it. I write a post on cultural connections between Scotland and the Upper South, and two fucktards post ads in the comments section.

Clearly, neither of these chunks of genetic flotsam is a Southerner (one of 'em ain't even British or Irish by way of descent, unless someone got drunk and boinked the domestic help). Neither can compose an
intelligible sentence in the fucking English language. And yet both (before attempting to sell me some kind of techno-junk) inform me: "i agree with what u write in your blog."

Ain't that nice? Two gobshites who probably can't understand a word I wrote (let alone the content of the Border ballad I transcribed) inform me that they agree with it.

What some people won't do in order to shill their snake oil...

Well, here's something I hope both can understand: i am a Luddite. i hate gizmos, and u can shove your prada phone right up the "exit hatch" of your alimentary canal.

Can I just point out that the 'spamming bitch' refered to is NOT ME. Now that you have deleted their comments it looks as tho I'm the culprit - or is just my paranoia on high alert?
