I found out that I didnt get that job at
iTunes I was hoping for. For the two or three people I actually
didnt already mention this to, I interviewed at Apple about a month ago for a position in their iTunes division. My girl
DJ Anna down in San Diego basically hooked it up for me. They wanted someone to handle the dance/electronica(their designation, not mine) section of the online store. I sent my resume on and the next thing I knew, I was driving down the 280....sorry wait. I need to make that last sentence bay area friendly; let's try that again. I sent my resume on and the next thing I knew, I was driving down 280 at 80 mph in a rental saying to myself "ohmygodohmygodohmygod, I'm-gonna-interview-at-Apple-I'm-gonna-join-
The-Cult-I'm-never-gonna-see-any-of-my-friends-ever-again-I-wonder-If-I-can-get-an-Ipod-real-cheap-I'm-gonna-kick-some-major-ass-in-this-interview-I-wonder-what-the-HR-woman-looks-like-and-do-they-have-a-softball-team-dont-forget-to-check-for-highway-patrol." They had me there for a little over 4 hours. I interviewed with 5 separate people. At one point I was 1/2 expecting
Steve Jobs or
Woz himself to walk in to take a shot at asking me some questions. It wouldnt have mattered; I would've blown them away as well. I left there feeling fantastic about things.
Last Monday, I got a call from the HR lady. She left me a message and I could tell by what she said that it wasnt the news I was hoping for, which was that I had advanced to the last round of interviews. I called her back and she's all, "well, I have good news and I have bad news." At that point I thought maybe there was an issue with my background check(they do a credit and background check of all interviewees, if you can believe that). She says "everyone thought you were phenomenal, but I spoke to (the hiring manager) about it at length and we thought that this position wouldnt be a good fit based on your skill set. We thought you might get bored with some of the work involving spreadsheets and stuff and want to make sure the person who is hired for this position is the right fit. There may be a better fit for you coming up in the next couple of months so you should keep in touch...." I swear, HR people love to use that word "fit," dont they? Anyways we all know the real reason I didnt get the job is because I totally jinxed myself from telling so many people about it!
So, what does all this mean to you? It means that I celebrated not being hired by the world leader in legal downloads by basically filling my hard drive with illegal ones over the past 7 days so you will have some phat Juicy Bitz to listen to all week long! First, brand new music from Daft Punk! This is from their forthcoming album of the same name, "Human After All." I read a quote recently from the group and they say they're trying to experiment with this new album. After hearing this one, I'm really wondering what they're talking about. What do y'all think of this? Would you Jam, or Slam this cut? The album is due in March.
Next, we have a very special bit from my man Joshua, aka
DJ Iz. This cut is the unreleased dub version of "Enter In," which in my opinion is one of his best. It's a little bit of that old mid-tempo chicago house flav. Feel that shit. And dont worry; I have special permission from to put this joint up, so please, don't get it twisted! This track will be up for one-day only. Starting on Tuesday, you can actually purchase tracks like this from Joshua's catalog on iTunes! So go get 'em.
Daft Punk - Human After All(forthcoming on Virgin)
Joshua(Iz) - Enter In(unreleased dub version, 2002)
Tomorrow: More from the new Daft Punk, and other surprises....
ps: just got back from Bionic. Solar totally played this tune that was a live version of Mr. Oizo's "Flat Beat." What the--?
