It's rainy day here in Big D and I am sitting with my dog pondering the last couple of months.  Lots going on, most of it good.  I'm in the last stages of a production with singer/songwriter Stephanie Sammons out of Dallas. We've been recording the last few weeks at Tomcast Studio in Dallas and getting great results.  Paul Williams, my trusty sidekick, is manning the board.  The songs are great, Stephanie has a great voice and no one yelled at me!  Very smooth sessions.  I used the guys in Max Stalling's band, (Bryce Clarke on Guitars, Mando, Dobro, Jason Steinsultz on Bass)  on the sessions and as usual, they performed brilliantly.  Additionally I used sometime Max Stalling pianist Joey Carter.  Joey is my secret weapon.  This guy can do it all; piano, organ, vibes, drums, string/horn arrangements, percussion.  Always great having him on board.  He makes me look real good!  This next week we are recording a string quartet for one song on the CD.  There is nothing like real strings on a song.  Samples on a keyboard just don't make it.  I have a few other production things lined up for the summer that should be lots of fun.  More on these as they happen.  This blog will mostly be for the purpose of documenting my productions.  Producing to me is one of the most creative things I get to do.  Since Max Stalling probably won't be playing any of my songs anytime soon, producing lets me be the boss.  Sounds like I'm power hungry!  Working with songwriter's, helping them get the most out of their songs and voices, is what really excites me.  I always learn something new during a production about myself and how to communicate better with people, not to mention studio techniques.  If anyone out there is in need of a producer for a project, give me a shout and let's see if we can work something out.
