IT CAME FROM CANADA
a program of queer short videos presented by Video Out Distribution, Vancouver
on Friday 25 Sep at Schwarzer Kanal,
Michaelkirchstr 20, 10179 Berlin
We're very excited to welcome Sharon Bradley of Vancouver's Video Out
Distribution, who has curated a program of Canadian queer shorts
especially for our Mini-Entzaubert screening series. It's a fantastic
survey of the variety and diversity of queer Canadian DIY, including
trans, lesbian, gay, First Nations, people of colour, and queer youth
voices.
We open at 7pm, and the screening starts at 8pm. As always, our
screenings are free, but we're always happy to accept donations. If
the weather stays dry, we'll screen outdoors, so don't forget to wear
something warm. And if rains, don't worry, we'll move indoors. We'll
also have a campfire, so please do join us for drinks, both hot and
cold!
PROGRAM (total duration: 63 minutes)
Artist Statement
Daniel Barrow
5:00 | 2006 | Canada
Using 1988 Amiga software (a veritable antique, by technological
standards), Barrow uses a computer mouse to illustrate and animate his
"gratuitously honest" personal manifesto. Artist Statement is a video
Barrow created to describe, but also to parody, his personal approach
to art making. It is also representative of his recurrent themes,
methods and preoccupation with obsolete technologies.
Sarania
Velveeta Krisp
4:45 | 2004 | Canada
A classic (un)silent film using metaphors to explore concepts of
constriction and freedom. “No person or thing can satisfy her thirst
for more moisture and freshness”.

Hey F*** Face
Amber Dawn
4:15 | 2008 | Canada
Hey F*** Face is part two of a three part series of short video poems
that explore the puzzling and often hazardous task of being human.
Medical specimens, gender bending Christian clergy and kinky sex are
just a few of the topics the whimsical narrator touches on during this
four and a half minute video.
Transmission 7:00, 1998
Ivan E. Coyote
7:00 | 1998 | Canada
“Sometimes I want to be just like my Dad when I grow up - but without
the scars”. Transmission is a snapshot of a transgendered family,
crossing gender boundaries with a Western feel.

Invitation
Michael V. Smith
5:40 | 2007 | Canada
Continuing his performance-based documentary work, Michael V. Smith has
created a confessional nude dance video. Invitation chronicles the
artist’s relationship to his body, welcoming the audience to celebrate
and bear witness.
Her
Kai Ling Xue
10:00 | 2003 | Canada
Her is a black and white Super 8 film presented in experimental
narrative style with original music. The film is a meditation into
fantasy and the solitude of love. Hand processed film and advanced
editing give Her an ephemeral and timeless quality that illustrates the
intensity of the subject matter.
The Walk
Terry Haines
3:30 | 2006 | Canada
The Walk is a glimpse into the life of a gender bender who doesn’t refer to himself as a drag queen, but rather a trans persona.
The Man From Venus
James Diamond
3:40 | 1999 | Canada
Smart, funny and generous, this experimental work tells it like it is for at least one man.
Working Baby Dyke Theory: The Diasporic Impact of Cross Generational Barriers
Thirza Cuthand
6:30 | 1997 | Canada
Cuthand explains her theory of the disempowerment of youth, and discusses this in relation to her experience with older dykes.
Triple Axxxel
LaMathilde
3:30 | 2003 | Canada
Ice-skating and gender. A pornographic collage of figure-skating footage.
Hose
Ken Anderlini
9:00 | 1998 | Canada
An experiment in piss: Pissed as in on, as in off and as in hosed.
Juxtaposing the utopian promise of sexuality in the 70’s with the
reality of cybersex in the 90’s, Hose examines the revolutionary
promise of watersports in an age when sex may no longer make a
difference. Weaving together cyberporn, found porn and basement porn,
this rich visual examination is the coming of age story of Hose, a
CuSeeme creation with a taste for piss.
