When Ten Foot Dolls sacked me I was a crushed.
I felt like a huge Ten Foot Weight had landed on my head and squashed it right down into my shoulders.

The main reason I wasn't right for TFD was that I had a completely different outlook on life and a completely different set of priorities. I've had over a year to reflect on this experience and have been closely studying other bands I have been part of since.

A lot of the time you think some of the people in your band are wankers and you can easily blame them for a band breaking up or you leaving but I have recently discovered something far more worrying.

Even if you are in a band with a bunch of your closest mates things can still go pear shaped. And I'll tell you why.. because individuals start to care more about the band than they do the members.

If you pledge all your loyalty to a "band" and then everybody leaves and you are left on your own, then where does that leave you? THERE IS NO BAND WITHOUT ANY MEMBERS. I'm sure plenty of you have been in this position I can name three people straight off that cared to much about their band and lost all their members.

Your loyalty should be to each other. Its very, very rare that you find a group of people that all have exactly the same priorities.. I have never experienced it. Just remember to take a step back every once in a while and respect your band mates' priorities and your band might last a little longer.

I have become so tired recently of hoping people will understand my priorities that I am seriously considering giving up on bands and perhaps music in general. There are other things I can do that will give me far more satisfaction than continually setting myself up to be disappointed.

I think if you care more about your band than anyone else in the band you are setting yourself up to be disappointed.

Best of luck

Haha dude I started writing a blog - it was a combination of 'the Ideal' band and 'what not to do in a band' but realised that a) it was about the size of War and Peace (ironically), and b)that without blatent examples of stupidity that directly points to bands I've seen thought it wouldn't be wise!

I think what destroys bands mainly is either other priorities (girls, jobs etc which is fair dos) or illusions of grandeur (often very misjudged and executed)

If a band is fun it'll stick together as long as possible as soon as it becomes a chore it isn't worth doing. And some bands aren't meant to be a long term project. In fact it makes me wonder what holds some bands together!

I wouldn't give up on music that easily mate, I can agree with everything Theo says. Also you are too much of a good musician and a showman to give up, it's wot you were meant to do! I've recently been thru the shit with one ex-bandmate caring too much about, let's say 'a certain thing' to give a fuck about bandmates personally and that's why Silverstone split. At the end of the day, it woz probably for the best for me. Anyhoo, take on board that people love you for what you do musically and the personality of Forsh. Be good mate.
