The Concept of Non-Existence
The definition of the word band is "a company of persons or, sometimes, animals or things, joined, acting, or functioning together" .
The "band" is not an individual entity and should never be referred to as such. The moment it becomes an individual entity there is a potential risk that someone may start to view it as more important than any of the members involved. The band can not be more important than its members (or their priorities), because the "band" does not exist without its members.
Instead of a respect for the "band", we should aim to nurture a respect for each other.
The Concept of Non-Ownership
"No one in EyeChild owns anything, but everyone in EyeChild owns everything"
Greed is a particularly dangerous, and destructive force that can occur between band members. Ownership of material produced is a catalyst for destruction and therefore equal ownership of any material developed specifically for EyeChild is a precaution taken to mitigate that risk.
Ownership of a band is a ridiculous notion. How can the concept of (band) ownership apply to a non entity? It doesn't physically exist and therefore cannot be a possession.
A member's contribution should be measured by something other than time invested. Time invested should be greatly acknowledged but lack of time invested should not be punished. If success - however great is to be achieved by the members, the responsibility is of all the members equally to make that happen. It is the responsibility of all the members to collectively identify opportunities and act on them within the personal limitations of members.
The Concept of Personal Space
Every member is unquestionably entitled to their free space. It is important to be passionate about each other, the music you make, and the shows you put on, but even more important to have time to yourself to reflect on these things.
There should be a safe word any member can all invoke without any repercussions to identify that it is not a good time to talk about band related activities. And it should be respected as such by all members.
