The first few weeks in any new situation feel like they last years; particularly the first week.  Something asymptotic happens to time at the transition between life epochs.  It continues on as normal for the rest of the routined, habitted world, but for the transitioner, the beginnings stretch out and the ends shrink up, and for a moment we hover in the limbo between stopping and starting, then it's back down the slope again. This is the great roller coaster.
