WOW! I am still breathless after finding out that Eric Clapton has mentioned me in his book. I met Eric and Albert Lee in London while on tour with the Everly Brothers in 1961 and '62. Eric and Albert Lee were playing in a club in London. Chuck Blackwell, our drummer and I stopped in after our concert. We hung out and talked a lot about music and American musicians. I told Albert and Eric about B.B. King and all the American Blues players.
The tour consisted of an amazing list of artists. Bo Diddley, Little Richard, Frank Ifield, Ketty Lester, The Vernors Girls, The Flintstones led by Terry Slater, and a new band called The Rolling Stones. We played all the Odeon Theatres, and the London Palladium. Many times, The Beatles would stand backstage and listen to the Everlys. They really admired the "Evs".
Then we went to Hamburg, Germany to play at the Star Club. We traded sets with the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. Great memories!
Albert Lee just sent me a picture of me with the Evs. I didn't even know that this pic existed! Thank You Albert!!! Check it out on my slide show.
God Bless,
Don Peake
