I've been reading on the internet lately about the San Antonio music scene. Many people claim that our city is the armpit of music in Texas, that we're the bastard stepchild next to big brother 'Music Capital' Austin, if you don't play (insert your genre of choice here), you're screwed, blah, blah, blah, and on and on and on.
In light of this ongoing debate, last night made me proud. I got to perform and enjoy music at the Double Fisted Mega Music Festival at the Warehouse (1305 E. Houston). The headliners of the show were touring punk bands Fear, DI, Total Chaos, Agent Orange, & Pasadena Napalm Division. The San Antonio band lineup included The Perturbed, The Deceased, Nuklear Fishsticks, Buffalo Lopez, Confused, Monkeysoop, Satantonio, and a slew of other talented folks.
Considering the other shows were also occuring last night, I was pleasantly surprised by the turnout at the Warehouse. I'd never seen the place so packed. Two indoor stages and one outdoor stage kept things moving smoothly and the people entertained. This was a well-planned effort - I give two thumbs up to the planner/promoter Reyes Events.
I had a blast watching the fans, the mohawks, the spikes, the leather, the multi-colored hair, the tattoos, the chains, the mosh pits, the merch, the kids, the parents, and the grandparents getting into the madness, and, of course, the bands doing what they do best - playing their butts off and entertaining old and new fans.
Based on what I saw last night, I'd say the San Antonio music scene's doing just fine.
