Hi Friends,
After much planning, deliberation, and experimentation, BOA has launched our first 3 titles as Kindle downloads. They are:
Glass Grapes and Other Stories by Martha Ronk
http://www.amazon.com/Grap..es-Stories-American-Reader..-ebook/dp/B002T45VZO
The Rooster's Wife by Russell Edson
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B..002SQKMA2
Sleeping with Houdini by Nin Andrews
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B..002SQKMES
You might wonder, with more than 200 books published in the 34 years of BOA's history, how we selected these 3 books for release.
That's a good question.
Kindle allows users to change font type and point size on their screen. That is a killer for traditional lineated poetry. Because users can alter the font that way, there is no way to protect the integrity of the poet's line breaks. So until that issue gets solved, we decided to stick with only issuing prose poetry and short story collections on Kindle format. That immediately cut our options down dramatically. After that, we threw the I Ching and...
No, not really. We just decided to start with three great titles out of a handful of potentials to get us going. We plan on releasing all our prose poetry and fiction titles on Kindle eventually. If we can figure out a solution that preserves line breaks, we will start in on our lineated poetry as well.
If you're a Kindle user and decide to download one of these titles, please shoot us a note and let us know what you think of the formatting and overall reading experience. The conversion process was laborious (shout out to our Kindle-programmer guru Bill Jones for his hours of work on this!) and we made every effort to get the books as right on Kindle as we would on paper.
Happy Reading... however you do it!
