Who Gives Kudos:

Monday, July 16, 2007
My heart is broken at the loss of this kind soul. Kelly rocked like no one could and she was a huge influence for me. We had a couple of great years playing together in the World's Cutest Killers back in '87. Looking thru my stuff I was surprised at all the good press we got. Time flies on and Kelly went and had to get cancer and I didn't get to see much of her during the 90's and 2000's. Her old Girlschool bandmates and pals in the UK made sure she was loved and supported up til the end. What a tragic horrid day to learn she is gone - it is so foolish and idiotic to think there is time - there is no time, there is only now, and MAKE SURE the people you care about know it, every day and every way!! When I went to England at 17 years old and met up with Kim at Waterloo Station carrying my Strat in a Hefty bag to join her new band, I didn't know that a couple of months later Kelly Johnson would walk into the rehearsal room and I'd be out!! I taught them Tush by ZZ Top, they taught me Live Wire by ACDC. Cool chicks thse Girlschool girls. Never stopped rocking and found their place in the music landscape and held on to it. When Kelly and I hooked up later, she was the metal girl with the pop underbelly and I was the pop star from "America's sweetheart" band the Go-Go's who was dying to rock out more! I was lost and confused after the GoG0's broke up in 85 and Kelly was more than a friend, she was like a sister. We were roommates and bandmates, and plain ol mates She deserved to play her guitar til the end of time itself and I really really hate that disease. RIP Kelly I hope you had a peaceful exit from this life. Visit Kelly's Tribute Page and Girlschool's MySpace Page if you want to know more about Kelly's music and life.

Kelly Johnson in 1987. RIP 6/20/58-7/15/07

Kathy,

I know how you feel to lose a good friend. I just lost my friend Kevin to a horrible accident, and your right there is no time. So you have to take what time we have and use it for good things, like being a friend.

I am sorry to hear about your loss, you have my support and love.

We mourn together Kathy over the loss of our mutual friend......

I only met you once..... at some dive club the Killer's played in Huntington beach or Costa Mesa I think..... Seems like a lifetime ago now.

Kelly will never be forgotten..... and because she was a "Girl" guitarist...but because she was a GREAT guitarist.... and a great human being.....

On guitar though... she was a Warrior Princess.....

another Warrior once said.... "That which we do in life, Echoes in Eternity..."

If that's true... .then Kelly's echo... is gonna be F-ing LOUD!!!

All the Best,
Fredie Vinson

Kathy...
I am sincerely sorry for your loss... for the people who love Kelly.
Your words ring so true. Tomorrow isn't guaranteed to any of us... we cannot change what happened to us yesterday... all we really have is today. Enjoy the time we are in. Tell the person you love, "I love you". Putting it off for tomorrow is no guarantee that it'll happen. So, with that... I say, "I love you, Kathy".
peace to Kelly.

I taught them Tush by ZZ Top

So that was your doing? LOL! ((HUGS)) I actually wondered why they coved ZZ Top, of all people... ;) I understood why they covered Gary Glitter, the Stones, T-Rex, etc.

Take care,
Bonnie

Hi Kathy,

Thanks so much for your post. It is so great and comforting to hear all the wonderful things people are saying about Kelly. Of course at the same time it makes it even sadder that she's gone. As a fan of 25 years it's been tough, I can only imagine how those who really knew her feel... Did the World's Cutest Killers do any demos?

Much Love,

Jim

Kevin OConnor...doesnt know who you are either

I first saw Kelly on the cover of "Guitar Player" back in the early 80's. I fell totally in love with her! She was the embodiment of rock and roll. I was truely sadened by her passing. As a big fan of women in rock I know that alot of the bands of today have Girlschool and Kelly to thank. Just go to Youtube and check out some of the videos. Thanks Kathy for sharing with us. Rock on sister!

Kathy, I had no idea.
I am so sorry for your loss and rock-n-roll's loss!
I didn't know Kelly personally but she sure was an influence on my life in music as
well, hope she knew how many girl rockers she pulled out of the guitar closets and
onto the stages around the globe I am sure!
RIP Kelly!
