Ohmigod ohmigod, it 20-02!!

So thanks for all the happy thoughts and well wishing as we edge ever closer to our band holiday, sure it's a bit like we've all been at a wake or something. But more on all that emotion next week.

Right now we have our free single up and available for download or stream. You can grab them both (Megaphone Bowtie & Mad as Hell) from our myspace page in the nice panel (just use the controls to pick the song) over on the left columns or on the rather snazzy site we now have over megaphonebowtie.com. We also have the two other EPs up there for your listening pleasure. So go grab yourself an OGG file or something. Thanks as always to Redlab, iQuinn and Burr in that chronological order.

We made a video the other night, hope to get it up soon. Though there is now a hole the shape of a colliefoot in my bedroom roof, that's all I can say...

Gigs are in a week, eeeek.

In the mean-time, here's the two songs and our press release that will give the full skinny on what's goin on with the world. We are the golden circle.

Green Lights “Megaphone Bow-tie” & Putting Band in Shoebox Press Release ....

February 18th 2008....

Green Lights release the Megaphone Bow-tie single on February 20th, available exclusively online on megaphonebowtie.com. The 2 track release coincides with an enforced lengthy hiatus for the band, with recessionary woes forcing a member to Japan for new employment and recreation opportunities. The band will play their final set of shows on February 26th (Cork, Cyprus Avenue), 27th (Dublin, Whelans Upstairs) and 28th (Castlebar, Bar Ritz).

The Megaphone Bow-tie single was recorded in Dublin’s Redlab studios on January 20th while the world watched Barack Obama being sworn in as the 44th president of the United States of America.  The first track recorded that evening was the title track, Megaphone Bow-tie. The song is about a constricting dying love and is best described as Leona Lewis meets Pavement. It features the home made instrument, the screamophone.

The second track recorded was Mad as Hell. This song is an instrumental based around Howard Beale’s monologue from Network (1976 ). A speech that could hardly be more topical or worthy of attention in the Ireland of 2009, “Everybody's out of work or scared of losing their job”. However the fact that this song is symbolic of the very reasons Green Lights are being put in a shoebox and kicked under the bed makes it all the more fitting for release.

Both tracks will be available as a free download from megaphonebowtie.com. This site was put together using Bandcamp, an innovative new technology that allows independent artists to offer lossless downloads and streams to users. The band’s older releases have also been made available for download from the new site.

Green Lights are Colin (guitar, vocal, sampler), Nigel (keyboards, screamophone) and Daniel (drums). The band hail from Monaghan/Drogheda but formed in Dublin in 2006. Since then they have lived together for just over 1000 days and played almost 100 gigs across the island of Ireland. They released their debut EP Small Curious Things in March 2008, and the second Time to Tell the Parents followed in November 2008.

Time to Tell the Parents was listed as one of Hot Press’s EP releases of the year and the Drop-D website listed the band as one of the big acts for 2009. The release received substantial airplay on Phantom FM, 2FM, Cork’s Red FM and Limerick 95FM where they were championed by the likes of Dan Hegarty, Jim Carroll, Cormac Battle and Cathal Funge. The band’s music has been used in RTE’s IFTA-nominated Aisling’s Diary.

Green Lights will play their final headline show Upstairs in Whelans on February 27th with support from long-term friends and local upstarts Funeral Suits (who have just been announced as the support for Franz Ferdinand on their upcoming Irish tour) and Star Crossed Enemies. Admission is €8 and promises to be an emotionally explosive night.

Dates:  Cork [Cyprus Avenue Feb 26th]  |  Dublin [Whelans Feb 27th]  |  Castlebar [Bar Ritz Feb 28th]....
