Ah, how long it's been. Thought things may seem all quiet on the western front, I assure you they are not!
Spent about a week in late December last year and a couple days in February tracking for a new Killing Phantoms record at Seaside Lounge in Brooklyn (www.seasidelounge.com); wow, those guys are really really awesome to work with. Totally knowledgeable, chill, and can coax out some great songs. They've worked with everyone from The New Pornographers, Beirut, The National, to Will Sheff from Okkervil River and Paul Banks from Interpol. Can't say enough good stuff about them so if you're looking for a place to track, definitely check them out!
Had lots of help from good friends. Roxanne came by to play cello and sing, Steve Milton and Dave Horowitz (both formerly of The Cloud Room, now with Lavalear) lended their accordion and guitar talents, and Brad Thurow (whom you may remember as engineer/producer from the last record) flew out from Fargo to play piano, wurlitzer, and organ. Last but not least, Jonathan Curtiss bangin' on the skins. Whew! Super fun.
Turns out tracking was the easy part! Alan Ford (Alan's website) has been studiously poring through the mix to make some sense of this all over at Kampo Studios in Manhattan. We're just about done, and shooting for mastering in the next couple of weeks.
So, when can you expect all this to be out? I'm shooting for late June. It -can- be done!
Still untitled though going through some ideas.
Here's the tracklist, in no specific order:
1) Chasing Fire
2) Jetlag
3) Heroes Night
4) No Greater Thrill
5) Only Ghosts
6) The Fit and the Start
7) Did You Try
8) Last Man Standing
9) Gaslight
10) The Wait
11) Wolves
12) New Year's Day
Will post songs soon!
Also, playing a benefit show for Mitrata (an orphanage in Nepal - www.mitrata.org) June 18; please come say hello, and at the very least, check out the organization. They are doing such good things. I met the founder, a social worker in Nepal while working there earlier in the year. She is also the owner of a music store in the Thamel District in Kathmandu, which I chanced upon. Ended up leaving with a brand new Harmonium, and a new friend. A very inspiring story. The show this June should be lots of fun, and am working on some fun guest stars. See you soon!
much love
