Disappointing that in Newport, hardworking community-based Councillors like Miqdaad al-Nuaimi have lost their seats to grubby, semi-literate Tories, all because of Gordon Brown's woeful grip on basic policies like income tax.  With Thatcherite arrogance, the decision to financially assault the lowest earners just weeks before an election was nothing less than suicidal. 

But as ever, the most interesting result, the one which tells us most about the political state of the country, is that voter turn-out was around 35%.  The people are voting with their feet and deserting politics in their droves.  65% of the electorate felt that there was nothing on the voting paper for them, no party or individual who can make a blind shred of difference to that fact that as long as the money-men are running this country NOTHING will change!

Also disappointing to see a toff bufoon in charge of London and an incompetent racist elected to the London Assembly to represent the BNP.  Disgusting.
