On Saturday, March 1, 2008, Pima County Animal Control Officers raided the home of a known animal breeder/hoarder. This individual has a history of hoarding animals and keeping her animals in unsanitary conditions. At the home, Animal Control Officers seized 102 cats most of which were used for breeding. Many of the animals seized showed signs of illness and all were being housed in unsatisfactory conditions.

The seized cats were taken to the Pima Animal Care and Control facility and housed overnight so the facility Veterinarian could examine  the cats. Several cats were held for evidence or because they were too ill to release, the remainder were released for rescue. SAFE Animal Rescue took 71 cats from Pima Animal Care and Control on Sunday and an additional 11 on Monday.

The cats rescued are a variety of Bengal cats, Ocicats, Siamese, Siberian, Himalayan, and assorted DSH and DMH cats. All have received Rabies vaccinations and a microchip. Many of the cats are now in SAFE foster homes where they will receive Vet care if needed, good food, lots of love, and be spayed or neutered. When healthy, these beautiful cats will be added to the Cat Adoption page and will be offered for adoption.

Fortunately most of these cats were rescued before they became too ill or died as a result of illness or poor living conditions. These cats will be placed up for adoption where we hope each will find the wonderful home he/she deserves, a home with lots of love and attention that every cat thrives on.
