What does a Comic Mom think about when she's not making breakfast, lunch, dinner, and healthy, nutritious snacks in between?

Oh my gosh, I've found the hottest Wednesday night comedy show in the Valley. You should join us. Lawrence Shersher runs the show and he just has this look about him that tells me he'll probably be the head of Warner Brothers one day. Anyway, he books great comics every week. Of course, I'm looking for a Canoga Park Bowl (CPB) replacement and of course, this isn't it. For one, hey, there seem to be no gangs! And yes, I still miss those chili cheese fries and my boys miss the awesome milk shakes. It's really hard coming to terms with the loss of Canoga Park Bowl, especially after six years of doing comedy there. And yes, I'm looking for a replacement, especially for that wonderful three-night-per-week show, in which I developed The Dildo Song, The Peni$ Game, and other fun stuff.  And no, Off-Kilt Bar isn't it. There are new comics each week and Lawrence rarely books a comic more than once every couple of weeks. That's bad news for comics like me, who love the consistency of a weekly show, but good news for the audience. It's the rare comic who does a different show each set and I know that as good as many of the comics were at CPB, people who were there every week sometimes tired of hearing the same jokes, over and over. No worries about that here at Off-Kilt Bar, corner of Woodman and Moorpark in beautiful downtown Sherman Oaks.

Tonight comic Eljaye hosted and producer Lawrence Shersher and Jason Hadley rocked the comfy brick bar, in addition to moi and a comic named Jenny, whose last name I didn't catch. There was also Stefan Tarjian (I think I'm spelling his last name correctly.), an Armenian comic.

L.A. Note:
Sometimes, I'll admit that I really feel out of place in Los Angeles, being not a Jew. It seems as though everybody thinks I'm a Jew, which makes the fact that I'm not seem even worse. In fact, one night at Lulu's, after I'd said plainly and clearly on stage that I was not a Jew, but in fact, a Southern Baptist, someone came up to me after the show and said, "Oh, you're the Jewish mom." I often wish I was, but in fact, if not for the fact that my mother's womb was just as Baptist as mine is (read: not Jewish) and the whole Jesus thing, I'd love to be a Jew. Really. I feel somewhat disenfranchised sometimes because I'm not one of, as my Jewish friend Robin calls it, "the tribe." And so, I was ecstatic tonight when, as I was leaving Off-Kilt, Lawrence Shersher gave me what I was sure was some kind of Jewish handshake, one I certainly never learned in Sunday School. I was so happy and glad to be part of the tribe that I'm not a part of, if only for a moment. Then, sure enough, when I asked him if that was a "Jew handshake," (and let's face it, if I were Jewish, I'd have known the answer to my question), he very kindly and politely told me that no, it wasn't a Jewish handshake, but rather just a cool handshake. Darn. I was quite disappointed.
