This months LUPEC was hosted by Bastille Bomb Thurs. Dec. 20th where the cocktails and the 6 members present were in holiday spirit.

MISTLETOE MARTINI OVERALL RATING...3*

4 parts vodka
1/2 oz. melon liquor such as Midori
splash of grenadine

Mix the vodka and melon liqueur in a martini shaker. Strain into a martini glass. Add grenadine. The grenadine will sink to the bottom of the glass making the drink red and green.

MULLED WINE-OVERALL RATING...5*

8 whole cloves
4 whole black peppercorns
4 (3 by 1/2 inch) strips fresh lemon zest
4 ( 3 by 1/2 inch) strips orange zest (I read this wrong and used lime zest last night)
4 cups dry red wine (I used Merlot)
1/2 cup kirsch or other cherry-flavored brandy
1 1/2 cups water
3/4 cup sugar
1 cinnamon stick
1 vanilla bean, in half

Preparation:
Put cloves, peppercorns and zest on cheesecloth, then tie closed to form a bag.
Combine wine, kirsch, water, sugar, cinnamon stick, vanilla bean and cheesecloth in a 4-quart saucepan and bring to a boil, stirring.
Simmer 10 minutes, serve warm.

I let mine steep for an hour before starting to boil and I forgot the vanilla bean.
