How can we reduce the cost of assistive technologies. It somehow seems to be wrong that disabled people who may most benefit form being part of the digital world have to pay more than anyone else for the privilege. Two key areas contribute to that cost. The cost of solutions and the cost of training. Either can cost disabled users 2 or 3 times the cost of the orginal PC.

So what can we do about it, first we can explore the availability of free and open source solutions for assistive technologies. One of the most interesting solutions is AccessApps produced by the RSC NE. Its such a good that we are planning to copy of it (with their agreement) so watch this space for details of availability.

We are also going to be launching a range of minibooks very soon with preinstalled Assistive technologies for ease of access at low cost. Send us an email to pre-register if you want to know more

As far as training goes - our elearnign site now has been running for over a year and has over 50 courses now available for users - check it out at www.abilitynettraining.org many of the courses are now delivered in video format to make them easier to digest - we are looking gfor new ways to reduce cost of subscription, so any ideas are much appreciated

Thats it for tonight - Ill update soon
