Cheers for this article. Certainly a scary, prophetic (and by no means unrealistic) view of the near future. I think for a sustainable future it's more than a question of "weaning our governments" away from an oil based economy... but rather a realisation that our government and the capitalist system they represent can't be led down a better path, they can't be even be forced... but rather the whole system must be overthrown. Pie in the sky? But as you point out we will be forced into huge social upheaval and change anyway. I agree with your comments that we must therefore keep on with our message of resistance, and show where we can (within the confines of today's system) that a better world is possible. We should take heart from the struggles of peoples right across the globe, and also recognise that social change can often happen very quickly.. and indeed leave us tired old revolutionaries behind! All the best Danbert. N x
