How did CFC start?

The history of "Concert For A Cause," dates back to 1999 and the first "Concert For Karen." The show was held in April of that year and was done in memory of Karen Greenberg Revit of Kingston, who died of leukemia a few months earlier at age 33.

Karen worked at Jitterbugs nightclub in Edwardsville and was also the associate editor of Sound Check magazine, a popular music publication in NEPA in the mid-'90s that helped support local bands. When she passed away, many friends and collegues from the local music scene felt strongly about doing something in her memory. "Concert For Karen" continued on for four years, eventually becoming so big and popular it was moved to The Woodlands Grand Ballroom. In total, it raised nearly $70,000 for the Leukemia Society of America, all of which was presented in memory of Karen.

The smiley face - which you see throughout this website - was Karen's favorite symbol and was also the un-official symbol of "Concert For Karen," appearing on the t-shirts, posters, ect ...

In 2003, the show, after much discussion with Karen's family, was changed to "Concert For A Cause" and now aids a different local charity each year. Collectively, to date, the 10 shows have raised more than $161,500.
