UPSTAIRS IS EXITED TO WELCOME FÉLIX STÜSSI
AS THE HOST OF THE WEEKLY PLANÈTE JAZZ JAM SESSIONS

Montreal, Friday February 20, 2009- The Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill is excited to announce that Félix
Stüssi will be taking over the reigns from Jim Doxas, as the new host of the Planète Jazz ‘Jam Sessions’ every Monday night.

Upstairs would like to thank Jim Doxas, for leading the Planète Jazz ‘Jam Sessions’ over the past few years. His dedication, hard work, and wonderful music is greatly appreciated. He has been an important part of our programming and Upstairs looks forward to working with Jim on many different musical projects in the future.

Félix Stüssi , originally from Switzerland, studied piano with many masters. In 1996, he won the prizes for best ensemble and best soloist in the Zollikon Jazz Festival. In 1998, Félix moved to Montreal to pursue his music carreer as a pianist, composer, arranger and leader. He performs his music in different venues with his Trio and Sextet: Félix Stüssi & Give me five. In 2007, his first album, named Give me five, was a finalist for the prestigious Prix Opus. In the same year, Félix Stüssi & Give me five, won the General Motors Grand Prix de Jazz award, during the Montreal International Jazz Festival. His second album, Félix Stüssi 5 & Ray Anderson: Baiji, is on Justin Time Records.

Félix has assembled great rhythm sections, in order to host the Jam Sessions, which will surely continue to be an important part of the Montreal music and Jazz scene.

LE UPSTAIRS ACCEUILLE FÉLIX STÜSSI DANS SON ÉQUIPE
IL DIRIGERA LES JAM SESSIONS PLANÈTE JAZZ

Montréal, le vendredi 20 février 2009 – Le Upstairs Jazz Bar & Grill est fier d’accueillir Félix Stüssi dans le cadre des Jam Sessions Planète Jazz. À partir du 9 mars, Félix prendra la relève de Jim Doxas pour les lundis soirs au Upstairs.

Le Upstairs tient à souligner l’excellent travail de Jim Doxas et tient à le remercier pour les belles soirées qu’il a offert au fil des années.

Originaire de Suisse, Félix Stüssi étudie le piano auprès de divers maîtres avant de remporter en 1996, les premiers prix soliste et ensemble au Festival de Jazz de Zollikon en Suisse. Depuis 1998, il habite Montréal et poursuit sa carrière de pianiste, compositeur, arrangeur et chef d’orchestre. Il se produit en divers endroits avec son trio et son sextette. En 2007, le premier disque, Give me a five, était finaliste pour un prix Opus. À l’été de la même année, Félix Stüssi & Give me five gagnait le prestigieux Grand Prix de Jazz General Motors lors du Festival International de Jazz de Montréal. Le deuxième album du groupe, Félix Stüssi 5 & Ray Anderson: Baiji, est paru sur Justin Time Records en 2008.
