SEATTLE SCHOOL is holding a casting call for singers,musicians, actors and performers for The Anarchist Songbook , a contemporary opera around the WTO demonstrations in Seattle. An initial reading has been set for the end of March in partnership with ACT Theater. The Anarchist Songbook takes us back to November 1999 as we follow a makeshift gang of WTO protesters,teenage runaways and hardened street punks who take over an abandoned former candy factory in the Denny Triangle. Through The Anarchist Songbook we experience their travails through a uniquely Seattle perspective, visited by the ghosts of local uprisings in the past,revealing almost a 'culture of protest' in the Northwest.

WHO ARE WE SEEKING?Seeking a variety of individuals for lead roles, minor characters,chorus, pit band and orchestra:- Singers representing a variety of vocal backgrounds, experiences,interests and styles- *Musicians representing a variety of music backgrounds,experiences, interests and styles, particularly percussion, brass,woodwinds or electric guitar (*bring your own instrument)- Actors / Performers representing a variety of ages, backgrounds,experiences and styles

CASTING CALL
Date: Friday, February 27, 2009 at 6:30pm (please arrive 15 minutes early)
Venue: Information is pending. A Seattle location to be shared with interested artists.
Process: This will be a group audition including some combination ofthe following:
- Singers – Acapella song of your choice, script cold reading,improvisation and movement
- Musicians – Song of your choice, cold reading from the script and improvisation.
- Actors / Performers - cold reading from the script, improvisation and some movement.

COMMITMENT
PHASE I- February 28th thru the end of March- Two to three rehearsals a week- Formal presentation / reading on March 24, 2008
PHASE II- April thru September- Workshops on "as needed" basis- Possible second formal presentation / reading
PHASE III- October thru November- Five to six week rehearsal period- Public Performances / 10th Anniversary of the WTO in Seattle

SEATTLE SCHOOL was initially established in 2002 as aperformance group interested in exploring sound and music, primarilyin relation to aspects of space, memory, rates/teleology, notation,failure, and audience. Seattle School seeks to create experiencesthat holistically engage all senses, and emphasizes other dimensionslike time and environment. Projects have included a corporeal-sampled laptop battle at a rock club, a composed bicycle tour of acity, an art transformation of an entire motel before its razing, anda competitive songwriting game show which was sold to networktelevision. Seattle School won the Stranger Genius Award 2004 forOrganization and Best Experimental Music 2005 in the Seattle Weekly.
