Hello All!

All songs were written by me and recorded along with the Chuckle Grizzly Collective with Chad Melton on drums, Vince Illagan on bass, and Mike Seal on guitar.

Some explanations of the songs...

At a Loss for Words

This tune pays homage to Brazillian and Afro-Cuban musical traditions.  Day and Seal navigate difficult chord changes here to generate a sultry intensity.

Metal Briefcase

This tune features some inhuman breakbeat drumming by Melton, generating an intense soundscape for Seal and Day's fiery improvisations.  Bassist Ilagin also contributes to the groove, creating a powerful vibration that informs the soul and booty alike.

Le Femythology

The second part of the Seal/Day saga, this piece has sections alternating between 7/8 and 4/4 time signatures, creating an
interesting rhythmic vehicle for drummer Chad Melton.  Le Femythology is a shining example of Day's unique compositional style, blending pop and jazz aethetics into something that is simultaneously complex and simplistic.

Tones for Faz Suite

A three part composition written in memory of friend and Knoxville guitarist Brian DeFazio, who passed away a couple of years ago.  This contemplative composition explores a complex range of emotions, from the serene to the inflamed.  Part I is an Eddie Harris-esque African groove featuring some fine bow work and soloing by Ilagin.  Part II features an intense piano driven beat framing a frantic intensity building solo by Seal, who is then overtaken by Melton's explosive solo.  This is followed by a short prayer-like ensemble passage and piano cadenza, which eventually settles into Part III, a beautiful ballad.  The piece is concluded with Day's fitting allusion to George Gershwin's  "Someone to Watch Over Me."
