MySpace, unfortunately, has done a poor job with its entire setup for user profiles with regard to style. Rather than using functional class names, they have used appearance-named classes, like orangetext15. This is a well-known issue, and many people have created services and template collections to help people reformat their MySpace profile. I've joined this effort with my own lean styles: http://www.december.com/html/demo/myspacestyles.html
My point is that you can have a leaner, cleaner MySpace profile. I think a cluttered look is common; I think new users are attracted to the idea of a variety of colors, fonts, flashing graphics, etc, conveying a sense of style. This is great to start out, and it can actually convey a lot with regard to social inclusion, much like clothing can help to identify people of different social groups. My lean styles are just a choice for people who want to have a different look.
