So, NARC magazine have given me a really nice review. I sent them a 6 track demo of some songs from the Í Wish I Was Dust..cd and they gave me ..Demo of the Month CD.., what lovely people....
Here it is;
With so much music sounding careerist, lacking in passion and following outdated and unadventurous templates, its rather refreshing when you hear someone who, though lacking in formal musical education and expensive equipment, just decides they have something to say. And is then brave enough to get up and say it. Very little of the music that gets dropped in the demo box has passion, emotional honesty and real character. Because he has all that (and not because he..s a blinding singer or guitarist - there are far more important things in life than musical proficiency), the Casual Terrorist is July..s demo of the month.
The Casual Terrorist is one rather shy and unassuming chap, Cj. One man, his acoustic guitar and his laptop. Like every band this month, Cj takes retro-cues, this time for his visuals, which are rooted in the early Eighties anarcho-punk packaging of Crass. As off putting as that may be, the Casual Terrorist is at least passionate about his music and his message (this is rarely the case with young male musicians). There..s nothing particularly remarkable about Cj..s voice, his arrangements or his musicianship, but lyrically he gets very personal and confessional. He..s honest, angry and prepared to leave himself wide open emotionally, and therefore seems to me to be more ..punk..than many musicians who adopt the outward trappings of the movement - clothes, chord changes, tempo. The nearest comparision I can find is Patrik Fitzgerald. A real suprise and someone i..ll be looking forward to seeing live.
