I'm not a blogger...I don't even know if anyone will read this, nor do I expect them to...sometimes I just feel the need to write something somewhere and in this case to honor someone.
I never met Dan Fogelberg...I've got some friends that met him once and one musician, Al Perkins, who toured with Dan, played on a project of mine a while back.
I didn't grow up during the time he was really hugely popular, though I do remember hearing "Longer" a good bit on the radio when I was in elementary school.
In college I heard a project that Wayne Kirkpatrick produced...the trio project.."Along the Road?" and loved the music....found out that Wayne was really inspired on that by Dan's work...so I dug back and started listening to his songs. AMAZING!
He wasn't the "Cool" rock star that the kids dig....but his music was beautiful.
Is it OK for a guy to say that music is beautiful? I think so...in fact I think the best music goes hand in hand with what we feel when we watch a sunset and are without words....Dan had a bunch of songs that were just beautiful!
I got to see him live in Atlanta 2 times...his voice wasn't as good as when he was younger, but he did really good and delivered the songs extremely well...

My wife Carrie and I took our then newborn, Connor, to Chastain Park to see him in 2002....I know..."isn't that a bit young for a concert?" yes...but friends of ours had a table front and center! The folks there allowed her to go backstage to look for a spot to possibly feed him...while there...a man came up to her and commented about how young Connor was......well....Carrie didn't know Dan...but it was him.....when he came out to play, she said, "he spoke to us backstage"
So that combined with his journey of music and legacy force me to say that I will miss you Dan!
I wish I knew where he stood with Christ...I never got that close to him...but I hope and pray that at some point in his days here, he came to understand and receive the gift of life that Jesus alone offers.
Thanks for all your great music!
