Just got back last night from Minneapolis and NBC's Last Comic Standing auditions. While I had a great time and met some wonderful people, I would say that the entire process was disheartening. While about 300 people waited outside in the cold, several top comics walked right in as they had appointments that were set through their agents. When we finally got inside, we were brought in groups of 6 to one of two tables. At those table, we were given just ONE MINUTE to do stand-up to 2 NBC employees. I have no idea who these employees were or what their credentials were. I do know however, that they did not care. They would look around the room and answer their cell phones DURING our bits. Completely disrespectful. So after we were done with our one minute, they said "Thanks. If you hear from us by 2 , come back. if not, thanks for trying." THAT WAS IT?! No input? Not even a chance to be seen by an actual judge? Anyway, I did not get the call. And from what I saw, the only people lined up at 2 for the next round were all those people with "appointments" that morning. These were touring headliners. I know, because I've opened for many of them. So basically, it seems as if the amateurs who brave the cold are nothing but filler to make it look like a big nationwide talent search. I honestly don't believe they had intentions on any of us making it through. Now there may have been a couple who slipped through. I just didn't see any. All in all, I'm happy I went cuz I had fun and met some awesome comics. But freezing your butt off when you had no chance to begin with sucks ass.
