What Odysseus wrote about ''The Reign of Dreams'': I can safely assume, with great joy and absolutely without any
hesitation, that we all just witnessed the birth of an epic era in
progressive metal, which was sealed with the initiation of The Reign of
Dreams. The album itself breathes life. Organically and instrumentally
balanced as a whole, with its parts falling in harmony as if by nature,
emotionally charged between logic and irrationality, yet painstakingly
crafted in such a way that will trigger previously unknown pathways of
melody and rhythmic patterns in one's mind, this is creativity at its
best.
First and foremost, the multilayered melodic lines create
such a richness of vivid images that you can almost see the colors of
the sounds. Until Rain successfully manages to bridge a plethora of
sounds from different parts of the world by fusing mediterranean motifs
with oriental scales and traditional metal variations, proving once
again that our appreciation of music is a universal trait across
humanity. The end result of this crosstalk is absolutely fascinating.
In
addition to that, one cannot help but be pleasantly surprised by the
reoccurring deja-vu themes throughout the length of the concept album,
which seem to blur the boundaries between the past and future. The
Reign of Dreams uses notes and words to allude to the tragedy of
existence. It seems chaotically complex at first sight, yet it
ultimately reveals a higher order internal design, just like life
itself.
Cut-throat time signature changes that grab your
heartbeat, oriental melodies that play with the senses, powerful and
earthly bass lines determined to provide coherence and direction in the
evolution of the songs as if by destiny, tasteful and dynamic drum
fills that drive the musical progression through time, breath-taking
guitars riffs and licks that glue the whole structure together, all
that coupled with dark and heavenly strings and piano compositions that
provide the depth dimension to this masterpiece... Last but not least,
the human element penetrates ferociously through the dehumanizing
layers of the instrumental awesomeness, emerging strong and pure from
the depths of the underworld and hitting intense emotional resonance.
The
Reign of Dreams is balls throughout. It has all that is needed to
quench the thirst of the progressive metal fans for good music. This
being their first album, I can only but hope that these guys will keep
delivering their talents in the best way they can. For the rest of us,
let’s close our eyes and listen to the songs as they unfold in front of
us a world as we want it to be, a reign of dreams.
