Hey Bert. My name is Claya Schafer. I am 15 years old and I love watching the Twins. While I was watching the game one day I heard you talk about ALS and that people could talk to you about it. Recently my Grandma Marilyn died of the horrible disease. They found it at one of the last stages, limiting her life to less than two months. I am so glad there is a place for me to talk about it. I hope that no one will ever have to go through the struggle my grandma did.
Thank you so much

Keep up the good work on interviews with Bert. I always enjoy hearing what he has to say-in print or on the air. He is very good as a broadcast analyst. Ever ask him if he would ever consider being a manager? I think he would be a good one.

Well I am not a kid...
Here is my story:

My memories of Twin's baseball go back to the early 70's . My parents resided in Eagan and I could look across the river and see the lights of the Met stadium and hear the games on my dad's old transister radio. I always wanted dad to take me to a game but felt silly to ask.

Translate to the year 2004...I am miles away from home and am homesick...missing my dad. My neighbor, who happens to be a retired ball player, revives my interest in the game. Now I have something to talk about to my dad on the phone...there is a mutual and common interest. 25 years later is not too late to begin a new and fresh relationship with my dad and to have something to share. Our love of the game...of the skills of the players...of their committment to the love of the game...and the pinnacle being when I worked with Kevin Costner and we shared our love of baseball one late night...it all adds up to a passion for Twins baseball!!! World Series here we come!

Heather: thanks for sharing. I grew up forming a love for the Twins at exactly the same time as you did. Yes, not too much for "American" than that description you gave in your first paragraph. Glad you still have your Dad around. My father was pretty quiet, hard to get him to open up, but he liked baseball too, we could enjoy that and fishing together.

What did you perform with Kevin Costner in? I always thought that "Bull Durham" was one of the best baseball films ever!
