It's tough being a five foot pole in a six foot pole world

Here are just a few of the difficulties.

I'm 52 and in a rock band.  I wasn't in one at 22 or 32 or 42 but I am at 52.  Weird!

I never dreamed of being in a rock band or being a rock star.  Of course that second one is never gonna happen.  I think I'm living out someone else's dream.

Four of us are related.  Two are my in-laws.  Yikes!

All the microphones are set at 6 feet tall!

I'm not a musician, so I am subpar in the eyes of those who are.  I guess singing and shaking things just don't qualify.

Sometimes I feel like Yoko Ono.

Rehearsals are like being in a bad skit with the Three Stooges plus one…..all of the SFP suffer from A.D.D!

I use to have a night all to myself….it was called rehearsal night….my husband would go off and make music with his brothers.  I would read a book, take a bubble bath, have dinner with my mother, but now I have to go and make music with his brothers.

SO WHY DO I DO IT!

Because I love music!

I love every single one of the SIX FOOT POLES (even the in-laws)

I love to sing!

And I love the rush of being in front of an audience when we connect with a song that they love!

HOW LONG WILL I DO IT?

Until they ask me to stop………or

They pry the mic from my cold dead hand.

"Don't tell them I told you this. They make easy adjustable mikestands. And you are a real band member or they wouldn't invite you to practice."
And I hope your better than yoko ohno.

(bad person to compare yourself to) she sucks lol

Being in a band is always stressful. You expect that everything you do is being judged and you are always wondering what the other band members think of your stuff. No matter what they say or how well they treat you, you can't help but take every comment as a criticism. I like to think that this is what art is all about. You open up your deepest feelings and visions and you can get hurt. The payoff is the thrill of making something beautiful and the smiles you get when you perform.

Playing solo is the least stressful. Every time you add another band member, you have another point of view and another potential misunderstanding. That's why so many bands break up and everyone goes solo. The trick is to let the differences add to the creativity and let the tension push you to do your best.

Peace, Love and Rock & Roll.
