Category: Life
So lately I have been pretty absorbed in a transitional phase of (finally) putting down some roots. In this time, I have been doing a lot of inward reflection, quiet moments here and there when I get the chance & I also bought a house (yah Vanessa!) so I am feeling quite grateful for how everything is unfolding right now...

I haven't written too many songs lately. One of my newest is called "Lost Boys" and it is about The Lost Boys of Sudan. During the Second Sudanese Civil War (1983-2005) over 27,000 boys were displaced and about 2 million were killed. I had watched a documentary titled "God Grew Tired Of Us" and it really shook me...and this song grew out of it...

I also have a couple of unfinished songs that have been rolling around in my head for a long while now, but I haven't been very good at sitting down to capture them fully, so those will come to fruition very soon. Maybe once I settle in my new home, I'll be planting plants, watching them grow and hopefully being inspired to find more space to let creative sounds rise.

It has been a beautiful time though. I know that many things are happening right now. I can't wait to paint some new paintings, write some new songs, meditate in my new garden and see how life unfolds.

Lots of love,

Vanessa

Self-reflection is like a mirror, you can never escape yourself.  Watching the plants grow or seeing the fishes swim is very therapeutic.  You’ll have an epiphany when you least expect it.  It’s very Zen like!  I asked a friend once if he played music for the masses or for himself.  He gave me answer I wanted to hear, for him.  That is a key to longevity.
