As I was saying my buddies Elizabeth and Donald take me to the airport after a very eventful weekend.  It's always a little sad to say good bye to close friends.  I get situated at the airport and get a free bump up to first class.  It was so needed, nothing better than first class at coach price!

I land in Los Angeles and as soon as I land I'm being rushed over to another terminal by my wonderful wife because we have to get on an airplane again?  WHAT?  She said we are going to Cancun for your birthday.  Now I knew we were going to Cancun but I really didn't know when.  So this amazing woman made it happen!  I'm rushing over to Delta to get on another plane to Atlanta then off to Cancun.  Get to have some quiet time with Michelle that is like resting in heaven.

We have a 4 hour lay over in Atlanta but it gives way to some great reading.  I get to finish my book about the Marines in Iraq.  Once on the plane I figured I'd ask if we could get bumped up to 1st class and I figured since I was lucky once I should try again.  The lady was great and funny.  She immediately denied us but I informed her it was my birthday, still not good enough for first class.  She did say she was going to give us drinks though and she really took care of us.  Then the steward from 1st class brought us back glasses of champagne!  They were so nice to us!

We land in Cancun and the weather was a bit frightful.  Raining and windy to start of this little paradise jaunt.  We get to the resort, RIU and it was breath taking!  So beautiful!  You can see the photos in my album and understand what I'm talking about.

The first night we met some great people from all over the world and enjoyed some great food.  Day two was getting a massage and spending time together.  We just relaxed, I can't remember the last time we just chilled and basically waited for the rain to go away.  We met some great guys from Seattle that we went bar hopping with to mingle with the locals and work on our Spanish.  We ended up at Coco Bongo's, what an amazing club.  It looked like a small theater from the outside but when we got inside it was HUGE!  There must have been 1000 people in there partying like rock stars.  Confetti, balloons and tequila everywhere!  This is on my top 5 list of clubs by far.  Music was great they had impersonators that did Guns and Roses, Michael Jackson and Tina Turner to name a few.  People were swinging down from the ceiling picking people up into the air.  Just amazing!  I think we ended up leaving around 3:00 am and we were beat!

Now we went with Donald and Elizabeth's recommendation of the Jungle Tour.  This is where two of you get your own little speed boat; head out with three other boats to a great snorkeling place.  Very fun and the snorkeling was amazing.  The guide would throw out fish food and they would swarm us.  It was weird having all these hundreds of fish bumping into you.  Really amazing and fun!

Now it was time to relax at the pool for our last day and a half.  The free drinks and food made it so nice.  I didn't have to carry a wallet just shorts and a towel.  They had volleyball going on, drinking contests and scuba lessons at the pool with some club music playing in the back ground.  It is exactly what I needed, fun sun and relaxation.

Time to head home and share about my next January trip!
