Playing on home ground at the Takapuna Tenpin bowling alley where The Checks bowled as kids, made this a show to remember. Fans started pouring in early from all over Auckland to guarantee a place in the line. Everyone made sure they made the most of the location by warming up for the show with a game of bowling. Excitement was high as The Checks were supported by their friends, the up and coming White Birds and Lemons, and a DJ set by 95bFM's Matthew Crawley.
With an intimate vibe the White Birds and Lemons wooed the crowd with a handful of melodic songs, every one a hit in the making, and finishing with a crowd favourite, The New Frontier, a song that you could say sums up their future.
The Checks, renown for their energetic live shows, set the venue alight as they unleashed their rock and roll swagger on the audience with a blistering set. The set, comprised of hits from their seminal debut album, Hunting Whales included such incendiary tunes as 'Mercedes Children' and 'Tired from Sleeping'. They also stoked the fires with a clutch of new hits proving that this volatile quintet is here to stay. It was certainly a show to remember with fans stage diving and chanting for the band come back for an encore.
A special thanks to The Checks, White Birds and Lemons and Matthew Crawley for proving to be such an outstanding line up, John Baker, Caron Copek, and Connor Clarke for their assistance, and last but not least the fans who travelled from both near and far who helped make it such a memorable show.
