It was the line up to end all line ups, a comedy show fronted by none other than
Rhys Darby(aka Murray from Flight of the Conchords). Rhys Darby took the stage of Auckland’s The Classic comedy club where he started out on the NZ comedy circuit to present New Zealand's first ever Secret Stand Up Show alongside Brendhan Lovegrove, Jeremy Corbett and Paul Ego! Since his first show ten years ago at The Classic in 1999 Rhys has come a very long way.
He has taken the world by storm playing band manager Murray in Flight of the Conchords, has played Jim Carey's boss in Yes Man, is in the soon to be released The Boat That Rocked, and now sells out his stand up shows. Rhys is world famous for his physical comedy and sound effects. It was not surprising then to see fans queued up on Auckland's Queen Street for hours before the doors opened to be part of this free and exclusive show for only 150 people.
t was well worth the wait, Rhys presented the crowd with favourites such as Bill Napier the Auckland Park Ranger, his infamous robot impersonation and some material never seen before (check out our video clips!).
Holding the torch for NZ Comedy, Rhys introduced his favourite NZ comedians
Brendhan Lovegrove,
Jeremy Corbett and
Paul Ego, and and by the reaction of the audience it was plain to see that the world better watch out! These comedians are in this year’s NZ International Comedy festival and their shows are being produced by Rhys Darby and
Rosie Carnahan's Awesomeness International so they may in time just give Rhys a run for the title as funniest man on New Zealand soil! Rhys was on hand after the show to talk, sign autographs and drink with his fans making this a Secret Show few are likely to forget.
Thank you to Rhys Darby, Rosie Carnahan, Brendhan Lovegrove, Jeremy Corbett, Paul Ego,
C4 , Awesomeness International, Scott and Rachel at The Classic, James and Natalie Brown for videography, Matty Warmington for editing, Joanna Alpe for the photography,
kazaamBLAM! for music.
A special thanks for all your die hard fans who waited patiently for hours to see the show!
