They reckon it's either a feast or a famine ... and in Tamworth tonight there was a feast of fiddlers. The Fiddlers Feast did a show at the Longyard Hotel, and Paul "Pixie" Jenkins played at Tamworth Services Club. Imagine - all those fiddlers in town on the one night! Cheryl Byrnes (Chez) and I were tossing a coin deciding which fiddle show to go and see when Mark Oats phoned and invited us out to the Longyard. What does a girl do, but hop in the car and go!

Renowned as Australia's premier fiddle band, The Fiddlers Feast is no stranger to Tamworth, being one of the most sought after acts of the annual January festival. The Fiddlers Feast is composed of veteran fiddler Marcus Holden (I think that means he's old!), who has just returned from a concert tour with the Toronto Philharmonic; multi-instrumentalist Clare O'Meara (that means she's clever), vocalist and member of The Bushwackers and Brian Cadd's band; Mark Oats, Finn MacCool founder (that means he's really naughty!) and member of the Bushwackers; Garry Steel, Australia's most versatile accordionist; and one seriously hot rhythm section - John Coker and Rodney Ford, who recently toured Australia with The Four Tops and The Temptations.

This was an awesome show. I've never quite heard The Devil Went Down To Georgia played like that before. It's highly energetic, extremely entertaining and very much a must-see event if it comes to a town near you.

I took some happy snaps at the gig tonight, so please VIEW MY PICS.

Cheers
