Towering Heroic Dudes "My Morning Jackoff"
Abandon Ship

New
York has new post-rock heroes. Towering Heroic Dudes mixes Brooklyn
living room noise with live Blooze-buzz on this short cassette. Try and
find My Morning Jackoff and you will find that, more often that not,
the Jackoffs live up to that boasty title.
One side one, “Meuh,” “Accepter” and “Ode to Posey” jam out with
homemade abandon and lo-fi glory. This is mini-Hawkwind at its finest,
with a little J-noise tossed in. These tracks reveal some subtlety
underneath the grease, showing a band that has ideas as well as the
desire to kick out the jams.
Side two was recorded live in Broad Channel, NY last December. “Live At
Math Bills” is full out body slam; assaultive rave-up rock that falls
into its own whirlpool on occasion, only to pull themselves back up to
raze more havoc. Overwhelming but truly epic.
The band with the career-suicidal name will be around for a bit.
Towering Heroic Dudes have power and humor to spare, and their aim is
sonically high. “My Morning Jackoff" is towering, towering rampaging
skronk. 7/10 --
